The first project within Year 5 builds on the fall of the Roman period and looks at two more periods of history that ran concurrent between the 4th and the 11th Century- The Anglo Saxons and the Vikings. The children will visit the Jorvik Centre in York to try and gain an understanding of this time. They will also learn from an experienced joiner who will guide them through a woodwork unit on making a long boat. In the Spring term, the children will learn about everything space in a comparison study between USA and Russia. This will include learning about the space races, building on KS1 learning about Neil Armstrong and Valentina Tereshkova as well as enjoying a planetarium experience. Having made stew in Year 3, it's now time to design their own dishes inspired by classic Russian and American dishes. In the Summer term, the children will enjoy an outdoor learning-led project which will involve camping at Ratlingate, kayaking at Hawes End, a visit to the Cumberland Bird of Prey Centre and also a trip to Watchtree.
