Through this topic we will provide a wide range of learning opportunities for the children across the curriculum, with a particular focus on History. (The detailed cross curricular planning for this topic is available under the curriculum pencil for Key Stage 1.)

In English we will be looking at quality texts in order to give children learning opportunities that enable them to think, talk, read and write. Our key texts for this term are Traditional Tales  and from the 'Power of Reading' strategy.

Through creative activities we will be looking at homes, houses and structures. Children will have to plan, prepare for and make their own items. We will also be reviewing these to look for design faults and how we could make these better. We will link these to D+T, looking at bridges and buildings and how to make these bigger, better and stronger!

Our Science for this term also links to our topic. We will be looking at materials used for everyday purposes as well as looking at properties and why these materials are used for a specific purpose. we will be carrying out tests on these materials and predicting the best ones for a particular job!
