In our modern society the importance of electronic communications and entertainment has grown to become a central part of our lives. Nearly all of us carry mobile phones and the vast majority of those now have the capacity to stream data and show video or play applications. In the home and at school we use laptop, desk top and tablet computers to access information from the internet, showcase our learning and maintain networks of friends through social media. The benefits of modern communications are enormous and life changing, however there are also many pitfalls and real dangers.

Through our teaching in school we aim to help children understand the potential in technologies and to use these to enhance and develop their learning across the curriculum. We also teach them to understand the risks and to take active steps to minimise these, wherever they are. This is a learning journey that will go on throughout their school lives, constantly evolving to keep pace with the advances in technology.

We also maintain vigilance to ensure that the school itself is as safe as we can make it for both children and staff. This is done through careful management of our own broadband internet and set routines and agreed protocols for use of the internet, mobile phones, cameras and other recording devices in school.
