In the autumn term, Year 4 will flash back 5,000 years to investigate life as an Ancient Egyptian. This will include identifying key landmarks such as the River Nile and the Pyramids of Giza, exploring the gory process of mummification and learning how to read the bamboozling hieroglifics. Outside the classroom, we will also head down to the leisure centre every week to boost our swimming skills!
During the spring term, our focus switches to the wonderful world of rainforests, in particular the biggest of its kind, the Amazon! Our learning will include the types of animals that habit there, the different types of trees and even tribes! A trip up the road to Cold Springs Nature Reserve will help us compare tropical rainforests to the slightly less tropical forests that we find here in Penrith. Furthermore, we will also be visited in school by Pet Encounter and their exotic rainforest animals such as snakes and toucans (Mrs Eather can't wait...).
Last but not least, the summer term will be all about the Romans! Before the term even begins, we will jet-set off to The Sill for a two-night residential where we will embark on a series of activities and visits to deepen our understanding of life as a Roman, including visits to former Roman forts: Vindolanda and Housesteads. Using the knowledge gained from our residential, we will then spend the rest of the summer term exploring what it takes to be a Roman soldier, the countries that were invaded and the lasting impact on the world as we know it today.
