Vision & Values

Our Vision

Beaconside is a large, caring family school situated in the rural town of Penrith in Cumbria, on the edge of the Lake District. Our unique community, environment and local context provide rich and meaningful opportunities for our children to grow, learn and flourish.

Rooted in our Christian foundation, we want every child to understand and value the place they come from, while also being encouraged to look beyond it — to embrace their ambitions, dreams and God-given potential. We believe that education should open doors, nurture confidence and inspire hope, enabling children to live well in the present and step boldly into the wider world.

Learning to Live. Learning to Shine.

“Let your light so shine before others, that they may see your good works.”
Matthew 5:16

Our Values

Our vision is lived out each day through our shared Christian values. These values shape our relationships, guide our learning and help our children understand how to live well together and make a positive difference in the world.

  • Hope – encouraging children to believe in themselves, their future and the possibilities ahead, even when things feel challenging.

  • Compassion – showing kindness, empathy and care for others, and understanding the importance of looking out for those around us.

  • Faith – developing curiosity, reflection and respect, as we explore Christian faith and learn about the beliefs of others.

  • Joy – celebrating learning, achievement and play, and finding happiness in everyday moments and shared success.

  • Courage – empowering children to be brave, try new things, speak up, and stand by what is right

What This Looks Like in Practice

At Beaconside, our Christian vision and values are not just words on a page — they are lived out through our relationships, our learning and the way we care for one another each day.

Relationships come first. Every child is known, valued and listened to. Adults build strong, trusting relationships with children, creating a safe and nurturing environment where pupils feel respected, confident and ready to learn.

Relational behaviour underpins our school culture. Behaviour is understood as communication. Guided by compassion and respect, adults support children to recognise emotions, reflect on choices and take responsibility in a restorative and supportive way. Children are encouraged to repair relationships, learn from mistakes and grow in empathy and self-awareness.

Children have a strong voice. Pupil leadership roles, class discussions and shared decision-making enable children to contribute meaningfully to school life, developing confidence, responsibility and courage, and reinforcing that their views matter.

Learning is inclusive, purposeful and joyful. High expectations are balanced with care and encouragement, ensuring every child is supported to achieve their best. Effort is celebrated alongside success, helping children to develop resilience and a love of learning.

Play is valued as an essential part of wellbeing and development. Through our OPAL approach, children are trusted to explore, collaborate and problem-solve together. Play supports creativity, independence and social skills, reinforcing joy and positive relationships.

Faith is explored with openness and respect. Collective worship and RE provide opportunities for reflection, spiritual growth and thoughtful questioning, helping children consider what it means to live well, care for others and act with integrity.

The wider world is part of learning. Our local environment, community links and enrichment opportunities help children understand their place in the world while nurturing ambition, hope and aspiration beyond their immediate context.

Through these daily experiences, children at Beaconside learn how to live well with others, act with compassion and courage, and confidently let their light shine — now and in the world beyond our school.
