At Beaconside Primary School, Religious Education is a core subject and plays a central role in supporting our Christian vision. The RE curriculum is built upon explicit units from the Blackburn Diocese Agreed Syllabus (Questful RE) and Understanding Christianity, ensuring a coherent, progressive, and theologically secure approach to learning.
The curriculum enables pupils to develop a deep and accurate understanding of Christianity while also encountering a range of other religious and non-religious worldviews. This supports pupils in becoming respectful, reflective, and informed individuals who can engage thoughtfully with beliefs different from their own.
RE at Beaconside is structured around the three disciplines of high-quality Religious Education: Theology, Philosophy, and Human and Social Sciences. This balanced approach allows pupils to explore beliefs, ask meaningful questions, and consider how faith and worldviews shape people’s lives and choices. Through discussion, enquiry, and reflection, pupils are encouraged to make connections between religious teachings, lived experience, and their own values.
Fundamentally, our RE curriculum supports pupils’ spiritual development by providing regular opportunities for reflection, personal response and deeper thinking, enabling them to flourish both academically and spiritually. At Beaconside, we are committed to equity, diversity and justice (EDIJ). As part of this commitment, we are engaging in ongoing professional development through the Christianity as a Global World Faith Network journey, enabling us to embed EDIJ meaningfully throughout our curriculum.
