Outdoor Learning

Outdoor Learning

The children will have a block of outdoor learning each term from Recption to Year6. In Nursery, the use of the outdoors is more fluid and the children get the opportunity to explore this at any given opportunity.

Throughout their time at Beaconside, children will have four main strands of learning. These are:

  • Nature, conservation and Tools- Opportunities to become familiar with local wildlife, flora and fauna and to contribute to conservation campaigns both locally and nationally. Children will also know how to safely use tools to support the conservation our school grounds. Accessing the pond will provide a wealth of experiences to aid their curiosity in the world around them.
  • Shelter Building and Navigation- The children will have plenty of opportunities on hikes to hone their navigational skills and also begin to learn the basics of first aid. Knot-tying skills will support shelter building.
  • Fire Ligting and Cooking- This will include cooking in the outdoors, a progression in fire lighting and skills learnt whilst camping in the outdoors.
