Strategic Resourced Provision

What is a Strategic Resourced Provision?

At Beaconside C of E Primary School we believe that every child is unique and special, and we aim to provide a broad and balanced curriculum for all. We are committed to developing cultures, policies and practices that are inclusive of every child and every need.

We are very lucky to have a Strategic Resourced Provision (SRP) in school that caters for children with special education needs including:

  • Communication and interaction;
  • Cognition and learning;
  • Social, emotional and mental health;
  • Sensory and/or physical needs.

Within our SRP, we work as a close team and with a range of teachers and teaching assistants who get to know each child on an individual basis. We think that this is really important as, for some children, their learning needs to be based on their personal interests and needs, whereas some children will be ready to do more formalised learning based on their age and stage. Our provision is currently open to 4 to 7-year-olds. (Reception to Year 2)

How does our Strategic Resourced Provision work?

In our SRP we work as a small group and know and track individual progress. This provides all of our children with the opportunity to make progress in all aspects of their learning and participate (where applicable) with the rest of the school community.

We pride ourselves on promoting inclusive practice for our pupils with skilled and committed staff.  Children are included in mainstream education and are at the heart of our school community; to facilitate this process we have;

  • A specialist teacher
  • Highly skilled support staff
  • Designated spaces with specialist resources
  • Access to a sensory room
  • Opportunities for weekly PE, swimming and music therapy sessions
  • Personalised timetables which incorporate a range of differentiated activities to meet the needs of individuals
  • Disabled toilet and changing facilities
  • Access to Advice from the Local Authority Specialist Teachers, Educational Psychologists and Health Care Professionals

How does our curriculum work?

The main aim of our curriculum is to prepare our children for life. In order for this to happen we acknowledge that our curriculum needs to be:

  • Progressive
  • Tailored
  • Individual/personalised
  • Broad and balanced

Our curriculum is defined by offering a range of learning styles for individuals. Our children need access, not a diluted curriculum. We support by:

  • Developing communication methods
  • Supporting sensory and regulation needs
  • Identifying and using individual developmental starting points
  • Using play-based, hands-on and practical experiences
  • Supporting understanding by using real life context and personal interests
  • Life skills being embedded alongside academic learning

By developing our Beacon curriculum, we aim to develop children who:

  • Can communicate choices and needs by whatever communication method they choose
  • Are confident, resilient and independent (where possible)
  • Make progress from their own starting points
  • Are prepared for the next stage in education and life
  • Love learning!
